Jason Ritter, star of Matlock, will gladly duke it out with Yellowjackets fans for his wife, Melanie Lynskey.

After photos emerged online of Lynskey and Ritter at the 2025 Vanity Fair Oscars party, Yellowjackets fans gathered on social media in swaths to ask Ritter if they could “fight him” for his wife.

And his response was both delightful and iconic.

The photo in question that sent fans into a tizzy was posted to X by a Lynskey fan and showed the actress posing for the camera in an old Hollywood-inspired sequined red gown with a plunging neckline and a matching red lip, sparking a thirsting campaign of the likes not seen on X in a hot minute.

“THE WAY MY JAW JUST F****** DROPPED,” one gushing fan wrote.

“MEOWWWWWWWW,” another commented.

Other Lynskey fans simply posted gifs of animals going feral, finding it a more accurate representation of the level of thirst that this photo inspired in them.

Soon after the social media frenzy began, some fans started to ask Ritter if he could fight.

“Yes, I can fight,” Ritter replied.

A simple but brave response.

“OKAY BUT CAN YOU????,” one fan shot back, unconvinced of Ritter’s athletic prowess.

“YES,” Ritter responded, quite emphatically.

Okay, so Ritter can fight. But how many people can he take on at once?

“Sure, he can fight…but there’s simply no way he can possibly take us ALL,” one user posed, suggesting that fans would have a better shot against Ritter if they teamed up together. A plan that even the official Yellowjackets account endorsed.

After seeing this collective threat, Ritter posted a video on Instagram, where he squabbles up, throwing a series of punches in the air, with a kick or two for good measure.

“I tried to warn you, now LOOK AT THESE DECOR CHOICES,” Ritter wrote in the caption of his video, showing off his home decorating skills, along with his fighting potential.

While Ritter and Lynskey’s fans never actually came to blows, the whole exchange has proved to be a rare example of celebrity couples not being cringe.
